Barney & Friends

Did you watch Barney & Friends as a kid? From WSMS students we interviewed, 11 out of 18 have. Over a decade after it ended, it remains one of the most popular children’s shows and is on the world-wide streaming service, Hulu.

Barney is a big, purple dinosaur that many children absolutely adore. Whether you watched Barney & Friends or not, you probably didn’t know that it was filmed in Irving, Texas. The show aired for the first time in 1992 and ended in 2009, and was filmed close to home for 8 years.

Barney & Friends popularity began almost immediately after it starting airing, but unfortunately the show’s views started decreasing around 2001, and ultimately led to the downfall of Barney & Friends. For the first eight years of the show, Barney was voiced by Bob West, but in 2000, Barney’s voice changed to that of David Joyners. Sadly, due to multiple lawsuits and alleged drug abuse, Barney & Friends aired for the last time on November 2, 2009. Many people enjoyed the show, and it is very sad that younger people will never know Barney.
