Disney’s ‘Soul’

On December 25, Disney Pixar’s Soul, starring Jamie Foxx, will be released on Disney+. The animated film was originally intended to make its way to theaters in June, but was delayed until November 20 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and is finally scheduled for release on Disney+.

“The movie looks promising, the animation is clean, and the story looks intriguing. I think the movie will be a combination of Inside Out and Coco: something happens, causing the main character to go on a journey and get to an end goal before it’s too late. After taking a look at the trailer, I have a good feeling that that’s how the movie will turn out,” said Christian Cazares, 8.

Soul follows the story of Joe Gardner, a middle school band teacher who gets the opportunity to play at the best jazz club in town. After a small misstep, he winds up in The Great Before, a place where new souls get their personalities. Joe desperately tries to get back to his life, and along the way he meets 22, a new soul in The Great Before, and shows her the joy of living.

“As a Hamilton and Disney fan, I’m so excited to see Daveed Diggs in Soul. I love him so much and I’m so glad he’s landing all these amazing roles. I think he’s going to do a great job,” said Anna Frost, 8.

Soul features some familiar voices: Tina Fey voicing 22, Daveed Diggs voicing Paul, and Jamie Foxx voicing Joe Gardner.

“I think Soul being released on Disney+ instead of theaters will mean not as many people will see it because it’s not advertised as much,” said Katy Daugherty, 8.

Soul will be available for streaming on Disney+ on December 25. Unlike the new live-action Mulan, viewers will not have to pay a $30 dollar fee to watch Soul; they will just have to own a Disney+ subscription.

Although Soul may not have a traditional release, it’s still going to have that classic Disney magic that will undoubtedly make up for the less than ideal launch.
