SpaceX, a private American aerospace manufacturer and space transportation services company, is currently looking to build rockets in a LA port to achieve their goal to colonize Mars.
Elon Musk, the CEO and founder of SpaceX, is planning to build reusable cargo rockets called Starships that will carry equipment, resources, and people to orbit and ultimately reach the Moon and Mars.
In 2019, SpaceX tested a scaled-down prototype of Starship to a height of 500 feet which successfully landed upright. In the future, the Starships will either carry 100 metric tons of goods or 100 passengers at a time.
SpaceX will need to find an additional location due to other projects in their facility in Hawthorne, California. SpaceX is planning to temporarily manufacture in LA. The facility is predicted to be up and running in as little as 90 days and is expected to produce 100 ships a year.
Starships’s “Super Heavy” booster will be able to take large payloads to – if not Mars – the Moon which will provide a checkpoint in humanity’s journey to Mars and beyond
