The Golden Globes kicks off the acting awards season to recognize actors for their hard work and dedication.

“I enjoy seeing actors get recognized for something they did that was impressive,” said Jack Thompson, 7.

On Jan. 5th, 2020 the 77th Annual Golden Globes took place. It is the first official award show of the season, and it gives viewers a glimpse into what the upcoming award shows will be like.

“I love the Golden Globes because that means there are more award shows to come. I also love their outfits; they’re so original,” said Avery Smith, 7.

The award show originally began in February of 1944 with an informal luncheon at 20th Century Fox Studios. It truly gained recognition in the 1950s, because World War Two was over and Hollywood could finally take advantage and shine.

“Since the Golden Globes have been around for so long, they have earned their respect as one of the top award shows,” said Reese Wallace, 7.

The awards are given to actors with outstanding performances in motion pictures and television. There are different divisions depending on the type of movie. Such as: drama or comedy.

“Romance is definitely my favorite genre because I love teenage romance stories,” said Cate Nobile, 7.

This year, some of the winning and nominated movies were “1917” and “Joker” for drama and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and “Knives Out” for comedy.

“I love the Golden Globes because I spend a lot of time watching shows, so I love seeing them get recognized,” said Samantha Du Bois, 7.

With the Golden Globes over, more award shows are right around the corner.
