On Oct. 24, 2019, WSMS eighth graders took their first ever PSAT test to prepare for for high school tests.

“PSAT 8/9 is the first college readiness test in the College Board’s suite of college readiness assessments,” said Kay Bordelon, WSMS counselor.

Some students get nervous about their first timed tests, but this one is really just for practice.

“I knew it wasn’t that big of a deal this year,” said Ulani Phillips, 8.

Testing is an important part in developing the student mind and showing what they might need to improve on.

If a student does well, we know the student is on track with their learning. If a student experiences difficulty on this test, then it would be an indicator that more support may be needed,” said Bordelon.

Previous eighth grade classes have taken the test before, but the test also gives new experiences and a new testing goal to work toward.
