The eighth grade volleyball team played their first game against Rockwall Cain on Thursday, Aug. 29 at WSMS as the start of their season.
“We won our first game last night because our team always had positive energy on the court,” said Finley Abernathy, 8.
Every Lovejoy team is a family, and it is important to act like one in order to perform well in games.
“I think the season is going to be great because of the bond between both the players and coaches,” said Makenna Brand, 8.
Another vital aspect of volleyball is to be considerate to your peers because it can create a strong connection within a team.
“To be a good teammate you need to support your teammates and have a good attitude,” said Brinley Ludlow, 8.
Not only do you have to be a good teammate, but you must also be diligent to be part of the team.
“I work hard during practice, and I try my best during warmups, so I get the most playing time that I can receive,” said Kaylee Christiansen, 8.
Staying focused in practice allows you to perform at your best and overcome problems that challenge you during the game.
“It was hard to get around the block, so I had to smartly place the ball so it would make it difficult for the other team,” said Reagan Fitzsimmions, 8.
Both players and coaches are excited for the season for the season to come.
