Solar Eclipse:

On August 21, the first day of school, students had the opportunity to witness a Solar Eclipse. This was a rare and memorable day for the students as a total solar eclipse only occurs in the same location every 372 years. Everyone was on a rotation to go outside on the first day of school to view the sun through the glasses provided.

Career Day:

On Nov. 1, 2017, students learned about different careers for their future. They choose three careers they wanted to learn more about and were assigned three careers. This was a fun day because parents and volunteers came to the campus to teach students about careers that many students didn’t know about, such as nuclear pharmacy.

Club Day:

Club Days have provided several fun opportunities for students throughout the year. There have been two chances for students to sign up for a club, such as cooking, coloring, Extreme Sports, K9 and Critters, lettering, yarn, Yoga in the Garden, etc. Once the students were assigned a club for the semester, they got to do the fun hobby that they signed up for with other friends.

“My favorite event(s) of the year were Club Days because it let everyone pick what fun thing that they wanted to do. They were able to choose a hobby that they wanted to do and learn more about that while socializing with friends for an hour every so often,” seventh-grader, Liam Palazzolo, said.

Bump-Up Day:

Bump-Up Day was on the Jan. 26 this year. During this event, sixth-graders from Sloan Creek Intermediate School came to WSMS and eighth-graders went to Lovejoy High School. This was a popular event because students enjoyed seeing what the 2018-2019 school year would entail.

“My favorite event of the year was Bump-Up Day because I enjoyed having a pep rally with all the sixth-graders here. We got to tour them around the school and show them our daily habits and activities. This was especially fun because they got to see what a normal classroom is like,” seventh-grader, Hannah Wyrick, said.

Pep rallies:

Pep rallies were a popular event because students got to see what their peers have been working on throughout the year. These were unique experiences to get into the “Lovejoy Spirit” while color guard, cheerleaders, dance, band, and orchestra performed.
