Once again, as a new school season comes to a start, so does one of the most beloved sports in the state of Texas: football. The wait is over, a new year of football is underway as the Lovejoy Leopards are ready to head for the playoffs once again.

Willow Springs football teams have already hit the field for two weeks of tryouts, and have been split into two teams. Before their first game though, players are selling coupons in order to earn money for fundraising.

“I think our offense is rather good and our defense is average, but we’re improving every day,” Lance Stubbs, seventh-grade running back, said.

As football players swarm the field, coaches help the seventh and eighth-grade football team’s practice for their upcoming game.

“It will be a great season; we have started practice a week early, and are ready for the competition ahead,” Joey Allison, eighth-grade defensive tackle, said.

With the birth of a new season of football, the players are trying their hardest to get in the best team, A-team. There are two teams for the Lovejoy Leopards in football: A-team and B-team. Dividing all the football players into two groups helps the coaches work harder on one team at a time.

“Our defense has gotten efficient this season,” Will Adams, eighth-grade defensive end, said. “We are a lot more aggressive.”

Currently, the football team is training for their upcoming scrimmage. As they near the scrimmage, the players practice harder and try different exercises as they continue to fight one another for playing time as they prepare for their first game. The upcoming eighth graders went undefeated last year, and are anticipating to do the same this year.
