Hunger is a problem all around the world. People have tried and tried and tried to put an end to world hunger, but there are still many countries without sufficient food supplies.

Not many students have done anything to help the hunger crisis, but Caroline Duke decided to do something about it.

According to newsnet5.com, in Asia, 512 million people are starving including women and children. Another 239 million people in Africa are also starving. In two continents, over 750 million people are starving as the wealthy population in America overeat and then waste food which could be feeding people that need it more than the U.S.A.

For her Independent Studies project, eighth-grader, Caroline Duke, is raising awareness and funds for Heifer International, “a nonprofit that sends animals to needy villages around the world for food.”

“I am putting on a hunger banquet so that I can spread awareness of global hunger and malnutrition. It is an enriching experience where you can learn about hunger in a modern way, not leaving your city. You choose a ticket and based on that ticket is what you eat for dinner that night,” said Duke.

An Oxfam Hunger Banquet is a unique way to learn about hunger. Visitors will be given a ticket on arrival, on the ticket, it will say “Low Income” “Medium Income” or “High Income” and based on what you get you will be fed based on people who are hungry, who receive a low income, medium income, or high-income card.

The banquet is April 30, from 5 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. It will be in the WSMS Cafeteria, and it is open to all ages. Carrie will also speak about hunger while people eat their dinner.

It won’t end hunger, but hopefully, it will help it,” said Duke. “I want to raise awareness for this topic and I want to raise funds for Heifer International.”
